My mission is clear, discover the source of the super mutant threat and shut it down. Unfortunately I’ve just pissed off the only people who could help me do that. How am I supposed to single handedly take on the super mutant army and survive? Let alone without bloodshed?
I’m just going to have to improvise I guess.
Before Maxon exiled me from the Brotherhood of Steel he mentioned that the super mutants were coming from the desert north east of the Brotherhood. With no other leads I head that way. The trek is long and I’m not sure where I’m going but on a positive note going cold turkey in the wastes cures my radaway addiction.
I also run into a few patrols of super mutants. They may be heavily armed but they’re also slow and I’m fast so I give them the slip.
Eventually with some dumb luck I stumble across an old army base. It’s crawling with super mutants so I suspect I’ve got the right place.
I tell the guard that I’m a special kind of super mutant he hasn’t seen before. I honestly don’t expect that to work but it does and he lets me in.
The base is pretty snazzy and thankfully deserted.
There are a few groups of super mutants clustered around but I leave them alone and sneak through the base.
God damn these force fields though, every time I go through one I get a nasty shock. It’s most undignified.
Unfortunately I can’t remain undetected for long and I am apprehended by this black clad mutant. Instead of just killing me, he takes me to the Lieutenant instead. Which is polite of him.
The Lieutenant is a pretty smart dude for a super mutant. In Bond villain fashion he spills out their nefarious plan. They intend to use this mutant factory to turn all the inhabitants of the wasteland into super mutants. Fair enough. He also lets slip that their leader is some chap imaginatively named The Master and can be found in the cathedral south of the LA Bonetown. If I get out of here alive I’ll be sure to pay him a visit. Then the Lieutenant gives me an ultimatum, either I join them or I die. He gives me a moment to decide.
As soon as the Lieutenant stops talking I run. Hard and fast and as far from the Lieutenant as possible. He must be temporary distracted because I manage to get away.
It is then that I stumble into a computer room staffed by a bunch of weird humans in purple robes. I’m not really one to critique someone’s choice of threads but some how I doubt robes are the most practical work attire.
I find an empty terminal and hack the mainframe. Conveniently the base has a series of self destruct codes. It’s at this moment that I have a moral crisis. The only way I can stop the mutant threat is to blow up this base, but doing so will kill people. After puzzling over it for a moment I decide to initiate the 3 minute self-destruct sequence and set off the alarm. My thinking is if I set it to a silent self destruct then it’d be my fault when all these people die. But if I give them fair warning that the base is about to explode and give them a reasonable amount of time to vacate the premises then really it’s their own fault if they get caught in the explosion.
Unfortunately instead of evacuating the base the super mutants decide to attack me. Well their funeral, I did all I can, now it’s time to do what I do best and run.
I flee for the exit while the super mutants chase after me guns blazing. But it’s all in vain because I make it to the exit with time to spare and watch the base explode into a fiery mess.
Except for the bits where I had to flee for my life that was surprisingly easy. Time to take out this Master character and save the wasteland once and for all.
